The Open University’s 2014 Assembly and Assembly Executive Elections are currently open and running until this Friday. The nominations opened on October 3rd and run until October 31st where the electoral register also closes. Voting instructions are issued on November 10th and the results will be published on November 26th. We at Surviving the OU would encourage all students to get involved when and where possible. What is an assembly and what are the elections all about?

The main student body in each OU Students Association region or nation is its Assembly and Assemblies are led by Assembly Executives. Elections for Assemblies and Assembly Executives take place annually in November and members take up their positions immediately following the elections.

In the 10 English regions, Northern Europe, Southern Europe and the Rest of the World, all members registered with the Open University in that region are automatically members of their local Assembly, so there are no elections. There are, however, elections to the Executive and there are 10 places available in each of these regions.
