Once again this past week we’ve been busy scanning across the internet to find the latest information and Open University courses. This week we look at online learning, nursing recruitment drive and water on mars. Remember, if there’s a free course or bit of news on the agenda then hopefully we will pick it up and stick it on the next Open University news.
The University of Exeter has announced an “international partnership” with education giant Pearson to develop online masters’ degrees. The university says they are “currently researching the potential to deliver online postgraduate degrees in a variety of subjects”. It adds: “It is intended that courses will start as early as September 2016.” he Open University, the UK’s largest academic institution, is a world leader in flexible distance learning. It set up the Futurelearn platform, which carries massive open online courses from universities including Warwick, Kings College London and Sheffield which are taken by more than a million students.

Ninety newly qualified nurses from across Lincolnshire have started work in hospitals across the county this week after a lengthy recruitment drive. United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has worked closely with the University of Lincoln, the Open University and other neighbouring universities to encourage the new recruits to choose Lincolnshire hospitals.

An Irish scientist has found new evidence of flowing water on the surface of Mars. Dr Colman Gallagher, of the UCD School of Geography, and Open University planetary science researcher Dr Matthew Balme have identified eskers emerging from a degraded glacier in the Phlegra Montes region of Mars.
