Once again this past week we’ve been busy scanning across the internet to find the latest information and Open University courses. This week we follow the ever expanding story of university cuts, easing the burden of textbooks and pink protests. So if there’s a free course or bit of news on the agenda then hopefully we will pick it up and stick it on the next Open University news.

“Last month the Open University announced that it would shut the doors of seven of its nine regional centres in England, including the one where I work. This will mean relocation for a few, but redundancy for more than 500 people working in those centres.”

Textbooks can be a major expense for college students, but Texas A&M University is working to ease that burden with open access (OA) textbooks. An “open” textbook is an openly-licensed, digital textbook that can be read, downloaded and printed online at no cost, for anyone to use and share freely.

Students and tutors gathered for a loud and colourful protest against the proposed closure of the city’s Open University. The protest was smiley, noisy and fun – almost optimistic.
