Once again this past week we’ve been busy scanning across the internet to find the latest information and Open University courses. The greatest university on the planet (we reckon anyway) is always innovating and leading the way on many issues that affect us around the globe and these news pieces reflect just that. So if there’s a free course or bit of news on the agenda then hopefully we will pick it up and stick it on the next Open University news.
OU research-inspired project shortlisted for British composer award. A project by artist Caroline Devine which celebrates OU research in design and technology has been shortlisted for a British Composer Award 2014. On Air, a large scale multi-channel outdoor sound installation for The Open University Campus in Walton Hall has been shortlisted in the Sonic Art category.

The EU is putting €14m (£10.9m) behind open data in a bid to replicate the success of the UK’s Open Data Institute (ODI). €7.8m will fund the Open Data Incubator for Europe, while the remaining money will go towards a research network and an academy to train data scientists. A number of other universities and research institutes are also partnering, including The Open University and others from France, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Slovenia, Sweden and the Netherlands.
