This past week we’ve been trawling the internet as usual to find the latest OU information. The greatest university on the planet (we reckon anyway) is always innovating and leading the way on many issues that affect us around the globe and these news pieces reflect just that. This week’s news covers the installation of Martha Lane-Fox as an Open University Chancellor, information on free cyber security training, brainstorming techniques for business and a specially-arranged culture night in Belfast.

Co-Founder of LastMinute.com and digital pioneer, Baroness Lane-Fox of Soho, has become the sixth Chancellor of The Open University (OU). Martha Lane Fox delivered her inaugural speech as Chancellor at an official installation ceremony on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

The government has teamed up with the Open University to provide a free cyber security training course for anyone interested in becoming an infosec expert. The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is reportedly aimed at anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of cyber security issues, and is geared towards ensuring the UK has the knowledge and capabilities needed to ward off future attacks.

The Open University (OU) will be hosting a free Creative Writing event as part of Culture Night 2014 on the 19th of September from 4pm-6pm. The evening, which will be hosted by poet and Creative Writing tutor at the OU – Maureen Boyle – is the perfect opportunity for people to come along and let their creative juices flow! The evening will include recitals of original work by Creative Writing students from the OU.
