Once again this past week we’ve been busy scanning across the internet to find the latest information and Open University courses. The greatest university on the planet (we reckon anyway) is always innovating and leading the way on many issues that affect us around the globe and these news pieces reflect just that. So if there’s a free course or bit of news on the agenda then hopefully we will pick it up and stick it on the next Open University news.
UCU members at the Open University will lobby a meeting of the university’s council on Tuesday (25 November) in protest at plans that could see around 700 jobs go from eight regional centres across England.

Sunlight may revive stranded comet lander ‘Philae’. The Philae lander stranded on the surface of a distant comet is down but not out. Its controllers back at the European Space Agency’s centre in Darmstadt believe the lander will reactivate and continue its mission. Philae is asleep, out cold in the shadow of a cliff that has blocked sunlight from reaching its electricity-producing solar cells, says Prof Monica Grady of the Open University who has been involved in the mission for decades.
