Once again this past week we’ve been busy scanning across the internet to find the latest information and Open University courses. This week we learn about data monitoring in higher education, hear an Audio Boo from an Arts and Humanities course and nursing recruitment. Remember, if there’s a free course or bit of news on the agenda then hopefully we will pick it up and stick it on the next Open University news.
New report heralds mass data monitoring in higher education – but there are concerns about how much say students and staff will have. John Domingue, director of the Open University’s Knowledge Media Institute and professor of computing science, who contributed to the report, says more comprehensive use of learning analytics could transform the sector.
“Each week students are making moves as you make moves on a chess board,” he says. “Some combinations of these moves lead to success and some lead to failure so we push students to take the nearest path that students like them have taken to lead to success.”
