As Open University students we all need a bit of motivation and inspiration from time to time just to keep us on track. No matter how able we are to “get up” for the latest TMA or EMA or no matter how easy we find it to study for an exam there will be lulls, dips and moments of self doubt. This is where some relevant quotes can help out. Quotes can be frivolous or throwaway or, if taken on board, can be incredibly powerful incentives to push on and achieve.
One of the great educational motivations I find is picking up a quote or word of wisdom from people who have been there and done it, just like I love grabbing nuggets of advice from people who are where I want to be. Here are a few below that remind us all just why we are making the sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears for an Open University degree:
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” ~ John Dewey
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life” ~ Plato
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire” ~ William Butler Yeats
“You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward” ~ Conrad Hall
A few gems thrown in there and many more were omitted that could’ve been included.
We hope you enjoyed this piece and if you want to read more stories about the Open University there are plenty more to be found here
