If you are a proud graduate of one of the top universities in the world, the name of your alma mater alone is enough to impress your colleagues and future employers.

As high standard as these top universities are, so goes their standards in choosing the student applicants that they will enrol in their university. Applying to universities, as what many would already know, is not a walk in the park. But if you have the determination and you are much willing to make this good investment, working extra hard will be your key. Follow these 5 tips for applying to top universities.

  1. Make a goal

First step to take is to make a goal. Determine what university are you aiming for, how do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years, and if the university you have chosen is good for your chosen path and dreams in life. Make a plan and list it down so you can easily track your progress as you go along. Being organized is an important trait.

  1. Be a diligent student and applicant

When you plan to apply on your desired university, it is essential that you do your due diligence. This does not only apply on learning about the university, but also be a diligent student in your high school. Your track record will play an important role for the university to identify you as a good student that they can add to their ranks.

  1. Study, research and be knowledgeable

A mark of a genuine desire to apply to a university is your willingness to learn more about it, the programs it offers, the history and previous students who are now exceptionally successful, and even as far as learning the basic information about the school. It also is not limited there.

Be knowledgeable not only in books. Be wise and be open minded especially about adulthood. When you go to college, you become independent. It is important that you leave an impression of being independent and responsible.

  1. Prepare for your interview

University applications will always include interviews. It may be a panel interview or a one-on-one, depending on the mechanics of the school. This is where you will get to showcase who you are as a student, why you think their school is perfect for your future, and other factors that would leave a lasting positive impression to your interviewers. Come to your interview prepared physically and mentally.

  1. Be prompt and smart

Again, first impressions are extremely important and this should become your attitude if you want to join these top universities. Be prompt, because this is a sign of respect and professionalism to other people. Be smart, which means to be careful with your words and give intelligent remarks. From the point when you start processing your application to your interview, always exude a positive, decent and smart appearance.

To be accepted in one of the top universities is already an honor. For most people, it’s like gaining access to a world where success is handed over to your on a silver plate, as long as you also do your part. To be an alumnus of these top universities is truly a pride, but the real pride is when you know you have been imparted by the best kind of education.
